Captain Jack Harkness, the former Time Agent and con man from the 51st century last seen traveling with the Doctor, ventures to early 21st century Cardiff. There, he becomes a member of Torchwood Institute, a renegade criminal investigation group founded by Queen Victoria to battle hostile extraterrestrial and supernatural threats.
Was truly one of my and our friends FAV' shows. Never missed one, and one of the reasons was the sexy Leading Man whose immortality and dark secret kept him somewhat away from our leading Actress. Then,(Warning Spoilers) out of the blue, for no logical, visual, movie star appeal, or dog walking reason, they pair her off with a mediocre actor with ZERO sex appeal, rough manners and no style. Figured we'd hang on, as it couldn't last…and it didn't. Now, the formula for 'HOT' shows are the irresistible force and the immovable object, i.e. the two leads being drawn romantically together against all odds–-succumbing at times, and drawing the line right back so we, at home, can HOPE 'someday' they'll get together, in between saving the earth and its moronic humanity. BUT NO…you go and get all 'Politically correct'(Warning, Spoilers)…in some Universe we poor mortals don't dig, relate to, or want to be part of. (Warning big spoilers)Homosexuality is just fine. Married Homosexuals is yummy. But in an Adventure film, sorry boys, but Mr. James Bond, DOES NOT RUN OFF INTO THE SUNSET WITH A 'TOM…DICK…OR HARRY'…no matter how advanced we all become. Why?…simple, Women make up HALF or more of the world population, and we cannot, will not, and squirm with repugnance when one of our few gorgeous hunks of burning love, spends forever( Warning Spoiler) 'Snogging' another MAN (as I believe it's called in England)–-so where does that leave us warm-blooded, romantic damsels in need of kisses, hugs, etc.? Where is Cary Grant when you need him? Sorry guys, if some influential producers or directors or writers gave you this advice–-IT WAS BAD ADVICE. Let ANYONE else on the show be(Spoiler) homosexual, but NOT our romantic leads–-they are what draws us to the show, and what will make us drop you like a decaying apple if you continue in this vein. "Love in the Afternoon" with Gary Cooper sure would have another meaning with you folks in charge of the Romance department, and your show is about Fantasy…not making Politically correct and maybe for some, self-serving episodes that leaves us with a bad taste in our mouths…literally. In the U.S. "Jumping the Shark" means 'You've lost it, and it's a matter of time before you are off the air'…so listen to not only a once upon a time 'fan'…but to someone who makes a living writing for films. Good luck, and stop it.
I first saw this show in 2007, a year after it appeared on BBC America. The premise is a bit like Ghostbusters on drugs. An organization called Torchwood headed by an immortal called Captain Jack must save the earth from aliens that pass through a rift on earth. Torchwood is set in Wales and most of the cast are from Wales. This is one of the main strengths of the show, as we don't have to suffer the usual boring and irritating 'English' people annoying us with their thick English accents (either the southern English or Nothern monkey English accents). The lovely lilt of the Welsh accents on this show make it a pleasure to listen to and as an American, I find it much easier to understand than the dull sounding English accents we normally get from British shows.

&quot;Torchwood&quot; is an anagram of Doctor Who. When Doctor Who was revived in 2005, fans wanted to know all they could about the episodes before they aired. In order to keep scripts and set photos from being leaked onto the internet, Russel T Davies created the anagram &quot;Torchwood,&quot; to appear on the production notes and on sets and locations so that they would be overlooked by people trying to get a scoop on Doctor Who. Torchwood Three - the primary location of the series - is located in Cardiff, Wales, as there is a rift in time and space running through the city. There are (or have been) at least four other Torchwood bases. Torchwood One was located at Canary Wharf in central London, but was destroyed in the Battle of Canary Wharf, as depicted in the Doctor Who series 2 finale &quot;Army of Ghosts&quot;/&quot;Doomsday.&quot; Torchwood Two is located in Glasgow. Captain Jack Harkness has stated that Torchwood Four is missing (possibly meant to be a reference to Babylon 4&#39;s disappearance on the show Babylon 5), but will turn up eventually.<br/><br/>The radio play, &quot;Torchwood: Golden Age&quot; showed that there was also a Torchwood India which was officially shut down on 24th February, 1924. Shortly after the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) regenerated into the Tenth (David Tennant), he lost his hand in a battle (depicted in the post-series 1 Christmas special &quot;The Christmas Invasion&quot;). He was able to grow the hand back due to leftover regenerative energy, but the old one was taken by Jack, who used the hand to determine when an iteration of the Doctor that he would know arrived. Diane was featured in the Torchwood series 1 episode &quot;Out of Time&quot;. She flew her plane - along with two passengers - through a rift in time, from 1953 to 2006. While being taken care of by the Torchwood team, she and Owen started a relationship. In the end she chose to try and fly home again, leaving an emotionally wrecked Owen behind. Diane returned as a ghost in the series 1 finale &quot;End of Days,&quot; when she tried to make Owen open up the rift, saying it would reunite them. The character of Jack Harkness is originally introduced and demonstrated to be bisexual (sometimes referred to as omnisexual) he will engage in romance and sexual intercourse with any willing and attractive partner of age whether male or female, human or alien. It has said that it has not being cancelled yet they&#39;re still thinking of what to do and Russell T Davies is doing another TV show [new children&#39;s TV show] Wizards vs Aliens. When he has time he&#39;s going to work on Torchwood, but there most likely be more seasons to come.They finished season 4 on a cliffhanger so there has to be another season. And this is what John Barrowman said: &quot;We&#39;ve pushed the pause button now because we don&#39;t know what&#39;s happening. It&#39;s beyond my control.&quot; So let&#39;s be patient.<br/><br/><br/><br/>
